Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. Mitchell became the the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy news stories throughout the years, including fiscal reform, the budget as well as The Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
